Bertha E. Vornbrock, age 95 of Meire Grove, died peacefully Sunday, January 3, 2010 at her home in Meire Grove.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6 at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. The family will lead a rosary at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Bertha Elizabeth Meyer was born April 15, 1914 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Clemens and Mary (Imdieke) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Aloysius Vornbrock on October 6, 1943 in Belle Prairie, Minnesota. Bertha was a lifelong resident of Meire Grove. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove and St. Mary's Sodality. Bertha enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. She also enjoyed quilting, embroidering, playing Scrabble and cards. She loved spending time visiting with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Marie (John) Kahlert of Cold Spring, Ruth (Armando) Vornbrock de la Fuente of Torreon, Mexico, and Karen (James) Vornbrock-Burns of St. Cloud; step-children, Marion (Sheldon) Rouse of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dorothy (Thomas) Wick of Hutchinson, Valeria (James) Younger of South Haven, Gerald (Phyllis) Vornbrock of Upsala, James (Ramona) Vornbrock of Tekamah, Nebraska, and Jack Vornbrock of Meire Grove; 36 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Verna Guenther of Laramie, Wyoming; and sister-in-law, Monica Meyer.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aloysius Vornbrock on May 24, 1987; infant son, Richard; infant twin daughters, Theresa and Joan; daughter, Priscilla Vornbrock; son, Virgil Vornbrock; 2 grandchildren; brothers, John, Martin, Edward, Norbert, Erwin, and Alphonse Meyer; and sisters, Clara Worms, Alvina Herges, and Emily Vornbrock.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jeff Younger, Roman Vornbrock, Alejandro de la Fuente Vornbrock, Tom Kahlert, Bob Vornbrock, and Jim Rouse. Cross bearer will be Sarah Kahlert and scripture bearer will be Judy Vornbrock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Catholic School in Meire Grove.
