Bernice C. Karasch, age 88, of Sauk Centre, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11th at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Fr. Sudhansu Kumar, O.S.B and Deacon Lawrence Kaas presiding. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7;30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Bernice Clara Wiener was born July 9, 1929 in Padua, Minnesota, the daughter of Susan (Spaeth) and Emil Wiener. She grew up in Padua and married Alois J. Karasch on July 22, 1947 in Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Padua. To this marriage, eleven children were born. Bernice worked hard raising their family. Baking, gardening, canning vegetables, making fresh sausage were some the tasks she enjoyed doing while their family was growing up. Bernice became an accomplished quilter, making a quilt for each of her children and many for her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Our Lady of the Angels Christian Mothers, the VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary. She would help with the Christian Mothers Annual Chow Mein dinner and donated quilts for church and auxiliary fund raisers. She always enjoyed playing cards - especially 500.
Bernice taught her family how to love and modeled what it means to have a strong faith in our God. Bernice demonstrated perseverance and resilience. She will be remembered as an outstanding Prayer Warrior for her family and for her church.
Bernice is survived by her eleven children, Alan (Janice) Karasch of Saint Cloud, Susan (Jerry) Haskamp of Sauk Centre, Gary (Penny) Karasch of Hill City, Michael (Cindy) Karasch of Grey Eagle, Ervin (Cindy) Karasch of Sauk Centre, Vern (Kim) Karasch of Blaine, Steven Karasch of Rapid City, SD, Kenneth (Esther) Karasch of Eagle River, AK, Janet (John) Thieschafer of Sauk Centre, Robert (Lynn) Karasch of East Bethel, and Sandra (Jeff) Kuhnau of Osakis; 26 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Alois "Al" in 2009; her parents; brother, Virgil Wiener; and sister, Lorraine Essler.
Memorials are preferred to the Saint Croix Hospice or Holy Family School in Sauk Centre, or Our Lady of the Angels Christian Mothers.
