Bernice A. Doege, age 91 of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the CentraCare Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be held in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary will pray at 5 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Bernice Agnes Stadtherr was born on July 11, 1929 in Melrose, Minnesota to Joseph and Christine (Hinnenkamp) Stadtherr. On July 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Sylvester Doege at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose. She was employed at Munson Feed in Melrose where she waited on customers, received orders, and did bookkeeping. Bernice also worked at the Melrose Hospital as a receptionist where she would register information for patients need to be seen by a doctor, answer the phone to direct to proper departments and many other tasks.
Bernice was a former TECite for St. Mary’s Catholic Church of which she was also a member. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Diocesan Council for Catholic Women (DCCW), Melrose Hospital Auxiliary, lifetime member of Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary, Melrose Area Historical Museum for 30 years, taught CCD religion classes, and helped with VFW steak frys.
Survivors include her seven children, Daniel, Roger (Joan), Karen, Charles (Melissa), Mary (Edgar), Barbara (Curt), and Steven (Lillie); brother, LuVerne (Rosalyn); 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvester Doege; son, John; granddaughter, Kimberly; and sister, Dolores.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
