Bernetta R. Heinen, age 88, of Greenwald, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Deacon Jim Schulzetenberg assisting. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Women and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Auxiliary will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Bernetta Rose Loecken was born June 10, 1925 in Spring Hill, Minnesota to Henry and Mary (Hemmesch) Loecken. She married Leo Heinen on May 13, 1946 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed together in the Spring Hill area. They retired and moved to Greenwald in 1980. She enjoyed playing cards, fixing puzzles, embroidering, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Bernetta was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald, Christian Women in Greenwald and Spring Hill, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Betty Lou (Bill) Frieler of Greenwald, Darlene (Rodney) Frieler of St. Cloud, Linda (Melvin) Feldewerd of New Munich, and Andrew (Judy) Heinen of Melrose; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Boeckermann of Sauk Centre; and brother, Sylvester Loecken of Texas.
Bernetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Heinen on November 21, 1997; brothers and sisters, Al Loecken, Margaret Loecken, Alma Metzger, Rita Suck, Veronica Loecken, and Gilbert Loecken.
Serving as casket bearers will be Todd Frieler, Troy Frieler, Keith Frieler, Bob Frieler, Curt Feldewerd, Cory Feldewerd, Doug Heinen, and Tony Heinen. Cross bearer will be Patty Backowski and scripture bearer will be Cheryl Haddy. Gift bearers will be Stacie Euteneuer and Pam Brower. Reader will be Scott Frieler and petitions will be read by Sandi Jaeger. Honorary bearers will be the Christian Women of Greenwald and Spring Hill.
