Bernard H. Meyer, age 85 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5 at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be at Saint Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 4 p.m. followed by the United Veterans Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Bernard Henry Meyer was born September 29, 1932 in Greenwald, Minnesota to George and Hildegard (Meyer) Meyer. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. On August 21, 1958 he married Jane Bertram at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. Bernard worked as a plumber for five years and then farmed for 36 years in Sauk Centre Township. He retired in 1997 and moved into town where he worked at NAPA.
He was a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Saint Paul's Catholic United, and the American Legion Post 67. Bernard enjoyed going to the casino, taking Jane shopping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Jane Meyer of Sauk Centre; children, Dan (Teresa) Meyer of Sauk Centre, Nancy (Dennis) Winter of Sauk Centre, Rodney (Sandy) Meyer of Sauk Centre, and Brad (Patty) Meyer of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Cletus Meyer of Greenwald, Gordon Meyer of Lakeville, Mary (Bill) Kobilka of Forest Lake, Judy Trombley of Plymouth, and Jane (Jack) Ditmore of Minneapolis.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger, Julian, Eugene, and Ronald Meyer; and sister, Dorothy Haider.
Serving as casket bearers will be Josh Meyer, Nick Meyer, Jake Meyer, Jay Kirckof, Jenna Erickson, and Kristie Winter. Cross bearer will be Trish Meyer and scripture bearer will be Nicole Meyer. Gift bearers will be Jessica Meyer and Brianna Anderson. The reader will be Tara Hinnenkamp and petitions will be read by Marie Felling.
