Bernard L. "Barney" Jacobs, age 76 of Melrose died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Barney Jacobs was born in St. Martin Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Michael and Theresia (Utsch) Jacobs. He married Helen F. Middendorf on October 26, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. He was employed by Kraft for 23 years and owned a bulk truck for Kraft for 3 years. He was also employed by the Melrose Hospital for 20 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. He enjoyed music, fishing and painting.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Jacobs of Melrose; children, Gary Jacobs (Rachel) of McKinney, TX, Linda Stine (Brad) of Sioux Falls, SD, Thomas Jacobs (Caroline) of Melrose, Michelle Anderson (Dwight) of Champlin, Theresia Gillie (Keith) of Hallock, Steven Jacobs (Darla) of Waseca, Charles Jacobs (Melissa) of Champlin and Amy Jacobs of Minneapolis; sisters and brother, Marjorie Janssen and Gertrude Kalthoff both of Richmond and Leo Jacobs (Dorie) of Moorhead; 14 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon Johnson; brothers and sisters, Mathew, Gus and Norbert Jacobs, Annie and Ottilia Kalthoff, Katherine Dingman and his twin, Bernadine Hinnenkamp.
Casket bearers will be his children, Gary Jacobs, Linda Stine, Thomas Jacobs, Michelle Anderson, Theresia Gillie, Steven Jacobs, Charles Jacobs and Amy Jacobs. Cross bearer will be Nicole Ford. Scripture bearer will be Sean Stine.
