Bernard H. "Barney" Hollermann, age 79, of Melrose, died at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 23, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. followed by Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council at 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Bernard Hollermann was born October 30, 1928 in Melrose, Minnesota to Herman and Mary (Mehr) Hollermann. On September 12, 1951 he married Marcella Feldeverd in New Munich. The couple farmed in the Melrose area for a few years. Barney worked and was co-owner of Hollermann Manufacturing Company in Melrose and later worked for Worms Lumber in New Munich until his retirement. Barney's pastime was spent in his woodshop where he built things for his wife and family. He enjoyed playing his concertina for his family's entertainment. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella Hollermann of Melrose; children, Judy (Tom) Kluempke of Melrose, Rosie (Dan) Middendorf of Verndale, Donna (Eric) Lindberg of Miltona, Tom (Patricia) Hollermann of Alexandria and Patrick (Deanne) Hollermann of St. Cloud; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and brother, Lawrence (Nellie) Hollermann of Little Falls.

Barney was preceded in death by his grandson, Grant Lindberg on April 17, 2007; parents; brothers, Henry, Alfred, Aloysius, Edwin, Edward, John, Joseph and Norbert Hollermann; and sister, Alvina Wielenberg.

Serving as casket bearers will be Brian Kluempke, Kevin Kluempke, Matt Hollermann, Evan Lindberg, Eric Middendorf, Joel Middendorf, Jim Middendorf, and Nicholas Hollermann. Serving as cross bearer will be Nicole Kluempke and scripture bearer will be Chrissy Hollermann. Honorary bearers will be the Saints Bernard & Elizabeth Council.
