Bernadine "Bernie" Weisser, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Country Manor in Sartell, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 23 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Bernie Ostendorf was born November 6, 1920 in St. Francis, Minnesota to Bernard and Isabelle (Pundsack) Ostendorf. On April 22, 1941 she married Cyril Weisser at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. The couple resided in Sauk Centre all of their married life. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. For 45 years she worked at St. Michael's Hospital where she served as the supervisor of the laundry department.
Since suffering a severe stroke in July, 2004 she had resided at Country Manor in Sartell. Her family would like to offer their gratitude and thanks to those who cared for her on a daily basis.Bernie loved to dance, garden, work on her stitchery, sew, and cook. Favorite family memories include her Sunday chicken dinners and holiday feasts with potatoes and creamed peas.
Survivors include three children, Janet "Jan" (Marvin) Schreifels of Monument, Colorado, Dan (Patricia) Weisser and Kevin (Bonnie) Weisser, all of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;sisters-in-law, Jane (Allie) Hoeschen and Isabelle Ostendorf, all of Sauk Centre, Rita Klaphake of Melrose, and Sally Ostendorf of Circle Pines; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Dena Ostendorf; husband, Cyril Weisser on June 23, 1980; sisters, Marcella Winter and infant Mary Belle Ostendorf; brothers, Edwin, Theodore, Clemens, and infant Norbert Ostendorf.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Brett, Erik, Jed, and Jason Weisser, Joy Brien, and Jody Weisser. Cross bearer will be Lexi Weisser and scripture bearer will be Jaimee Lindus.
