Bernadine "Bernie" Schmiesing, age 93 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Fairway Pines Assisted Living in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Bernadine Catherine Schmiesing was born May 27, 1921 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Herman and Theresa (Petermeier) Schmiesing. She attended country school in Getty Township and graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1939. Her family moved to Sauk Centre in 1949 and she worked at the Mary Ann Shop until it closed. She then worked as a clerk for Bushey Drug until she retired in 1994. Since 2012 she had resided at Fairway Pines Assisted Living.
Bernie enjoyed participating in quilting and a bowling league, as well as, cooking and baking.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, where she scheduled the Sunday rosary for 20 years, and a member of the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include one sister, Lydia Zenzen of Melrose; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Schmiesing of Melrose and Hilda Schmiesing of Meire Grove; many nieces and nephews.
Bernie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry, Ervin, and Alphonse Schmiesing; sisters, Ann Schmiesing, Agnes Meyer, Alvina Zenzen, Clara Clobes, and Alma Meyer.
Serving as casket bearers will be Gerald, Neil, James, and Jeron Meyer, Mark Schmiesing, and Daryl Zenzen. Cross bearer will be Eunice Lesser and scripture bearer will be Geraldine Winter. Honorary bearers will be Janet Kulzer, Tillie Petermeier, and the Christian Mothers.
