Bernadine R. Pohlmann, age 80 of Melrose, died Friday, May 4, 2007 at the Melrose Area Hospital.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers, Legion of Mary, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Auxiliary will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Bernadine Pohlmann was born May 25, 1926 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Koetter) Blommel. She married Edmund "Eddie" Pohlmann on May 3, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Bernadine and Eddie operated a dairy farmed north of Melrose until their barn burned in 1976. They continued to live on the farm, feeding young stock. Bernadine was a salesperson for World Book Encyclopedia. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, Legion of Mary, St. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. She enjoyed garage sales, attending auctions, and playing cards with her card group.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Pohlmann of Melrose; children, Elizabeth Pohlmann and her husband, Harald Moore of Johnsonville, NY, Lucy Shonyo and her husband, John of Oronoco, Mary Pohlmann and her husband, Richard Loxtercamp of Osakis, John Pohlmann and his wife, Sandy of Harrisburg, SD, Ann Henderson and her husband, Michael of Evanston, IL, and Jane Salzl and her husband, Sam of Melrose; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister, Marie Eilers of Clear Lake; brothers, Maurus Blommel and his wife, Rita of Albany and Joe Blommel and his wife, Fran of Albany.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; infant son; and brothers, Aloysius and Alphonse Blommel.
Serving as casket bearers will be Bernadine's children, Elizabeth, Lucy, Mary, John, Ann, and Jane. Serving as cross bearer will be Molly Salzl and scripture bearer will be Sarah Shonyo. Mass servers will be Taylor Salzl and Adam Pohlmann. Readers will be John Pohlmann, Jacob Pohlmann, Liz Pohlmann, and Lucy Shonyo. Gift bearers will be Michael Salzl, Noah Salzl, and Matthew Pohlmann. Eucharistic Ministers will be Nick Pohlmann, Doreen Frericks, Vern Frericks, and Sr. Paula Pohlmann, O.S.F. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
