Arthur E. “Art” Harlander, Sr., age 94 of Holdingford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4 at All Saints - St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holdingford with Rev. Gregory Mastey officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the All Saints - St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holdingford.
Arthur Edward Harlander was born February 2, 1927 in Holding Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Frank, Jr. and Helen (Young) Harlander. He was united in marriage to Theresia Barbara Breth on October 22, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holdingford. Art was a lifelong farmer who farmed east of Holdingford. In 1949 he purchased a new Farmall H tractor which is still use to this day. He cherished the farm and his family, and loved when people would come to visit and reminisce.
He was a member of All Saints - St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holdingford and St. Joseph’s Society. Art’s pride and joy were his horses and treated his Holstein cows as pets. For 26 years in a row, Art pulled the water wagon with his horses at the Bill Vouk’s Steam Show. Art’s faith and family was near and dear to his heart. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Patty (Jay) Knevel of Waite Park and Art, Jr. (Rene) Harlander of Holdingford; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Mary Ann) Harlander of St. Cloud; and sister-in-law, Frances Breth of Albany.
Art was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Theresia Harlander on April 4, 2016; parents; granddaughter, Sandra Rose Rene Harlander; and brother, Alvin Harlander.
Serving as casket bearers will be Debra Sackett, Dee Wilking, Donna Knevel, Ryan Harlander, Melissa Swenson, and John Harlander. Cross bearer will be Jack Harlander and scripture bearer will be Raelyn Sackett. Readers will be Debra Sackett and Melissa Swenson and serving as gift bearers will be Dillon Sackett, Colton Sackett, and Brooke Swenson. Petitions will be read by Maiya Swenson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
