Arnold John Quistorff, age 85 of Sauk Centre, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kevin Born officiating. Interment will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery in West Union with military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. The United Veterans Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Arnold John Quistorff was born March 2, 1924 in Kandota Township in Todd County, Minnesota to Emil and Clara (Glockzin) Quistorff. Arnold was married to Lois Huismann on September 27, 1949 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. The couple had six sons, Wayne, Roger, Michael, Andrew, Jeff and Jack. Arnold was in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946 after which he was honorably discharged. Back at home he worked for local famers as a hired hand, road construction and later for Kranz Oil Company for a number of years. In 1968, he went to work for Wonder Bread Company as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1986.
Arnold was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre, the American Legion Post 67, and the Sinclair Lewis Eagles. For many years, he served as a board member and caretaker for the Silver Creek Cemetery. His hobbies included driving tractor and doing field work for farmers. He loved tinkering with mechanics, fishing and hunting.
Arnold is survived by his sons, Roger (Glenda) Quistorff of Dunsmuir, California, Michael (Dora) Quistorff of Sauk Centre, Andrew (Connie) Quistorff of West Union, Jeff (Sharon) Quistorff of Sauk Centre, and Jack (April) Quistorff of Sauk Centre; daughter-in-law, Laurie Quistorff of Sauk Centre; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Orville Quistorff of Osakis and John Quistorff of Sauk Centre; and sister, Mabel Trierweiler of Sauk Centre.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife Lois Quistorff on January 5, 2009; son, Wayne Quistorff on November 11, 1998; parents, Emil and Clara Quistorff; brother, Albert Quistorff; sister, Marcella Gettel; brothers-in-law, Walter Gettel and George Trierweiler, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Audrey Quistorff, Thelma Quistorff, and Jeanie Huismann; nephews, David Quistorff and Robbie Winters.
Serving as casket bearers will be Randy Quistorff, Joseph Quistorff, Rachel Quistorff, Andrea Quistorff, Monique Quistorff, Darrin Quistorff, Tyler Walther, and Nathan Quistorff. Cross bearer will be Nicole Quistorff. Honorary bearers will be Gerald and Donna Parks, Ed and Kathy Heinze, George and Marilyn Middendorf, Gerry and Judy Zenzen, Clint and Robin Weilage, Verona Vogt, LaVonne Metcalf, Millie Blank, and Carol Peterson.
