Arlene R. Veeder, age 76 of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, August, 16, 2014 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota from the effects of COPD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Robert Rolfes will officiate with interment following in St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by United Auxiliaries at 6 p.m. and Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Arlene Rose Lentz was born July 14, 1938 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Chris and Hilda (Otte) Lentz. She was a 1955 graduate of Osakis High School. She was married to Richard "Dick" Veeder in September of 1958. While Dick served in the U.S. Army the couple resided in France and Arizona. They moved to Sauk Centre in 1964, where Arlene worked as a waitress until she took over the Ding Dong Café from her parents. Arlene broadened her horizons by purchasing and operating the River's Edge Restaurant for 20 years. When she retired she spent several winters in Texas until her illness made the trip back and forth too difficult for her to make.
Arlene was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Michael's Hospital Auxiliary, Sinclair Lewis Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Post 67 Auxiliary, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary, Degree of Honor, and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include five children, Kimberly Vearrier of Sauk Centre, Jacqueline (Lawrence) Smith of Eagan, John (friend, Amy Bertram) Veeder of Sauk Centre, Pamela Thompson of St. Cloud, and Kathryn Spencer of Wausau, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Rachel Amundson, Katelyn and Chelsea Spencer, Joseph Vearrier, Christopher and Megan Veeder, and Nicole Thompson; two sisters, Jo Ann (Jim) Fynboh of Sauk Centre and Janice (Howard) Majerus of Osakis; sister-in-law, Doreen Lentz of Sauk Centre; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerome Lentz; infant sister, Mary; former husband, Richard Veeder; son-in-law, Kip Spencer; brother-in-law, Melvin Rolfes; and niece, Linda Blonigen.
Serving as casket bearers will be Michael and Dale Rolfes, Brian Lentz, Kevin Uhlenkamp, Ronald Majerus, and Robert Hargurth. Cross bearer will be Nicole Thompson, scripture bearer will be Joseph Vearrier, and gift bearers will be Sara and Brody Uhlenkamp.
