Anthony "Tony" Klaphake, age 78 of Greenwald, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at church. Parish prayers will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Anthony Henry Klaphake was born May 17, 1931 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Herman and Anna (Middendorf) Klaphake. On October 29, 1955 he married Louise Peters at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Padua. The couple farmed near West Port until 1997 when they moved to Greenwald. Tony was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

Tony is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise Klaphake of Greenwald; children, Steve Klaphake of Grey Eagle, Karen (Curt) Baron of Denver, Colorado, Mike (Sharon) Klaphake of Burtrum, and Tim (Lisa) Klaphake of Nashwauk; grandchildren, Dennis, Ryan, Megan, Trevor, Chelsea and Brooke Klaphake; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Carter, and Wyatt; sisters, Lorraine Marthaler, Margaret (Herb) Breitbach, and Val (Steven) Kral; and brothers Edward (Marlene) Klaphake and Herman (Kathy) Klaphake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Donald and Pamela; and sister, Leona Boeckerman.

Serving as casket bearers will be Dennis Klaphake, Trevor Klaphake, Ryan Klaphake, Patrick Klaphake, Kenneth Marthaler, and Gerald Imdieke. Cross bearer will be Megan Klaphake and scripture bearer will be Chelsea Klaphake. Serving as lectors will be Chelsea Klaphake and Brooke Klaphake. Gift bearers will be Karen Baron and Sharon Klaphake.
