Anthony A. "Tony" Goerdt, Jr., age 82 of Sauk Centre, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 6 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating and Deacon Lawrence Kaas concelebrating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Anthony Adolph Goerdt, Jr. was born August 28, 1927 in Belgrade, Minnesota to Anthony and Loretta (Weimerskirch) Goerdt. On October 6, 1954 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Kaas at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Tony enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, chess, golf, the accordion and the harmonica. Tony also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a love for geology and gem faceting. Working all of his life on the farm, he still loved to help out when he could.
Tony was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Goerdt; eight children, Mary (Alcuin) Kampsen, and Michael (Mary) Goerdt, all of Sauk Centre, Carol (James) Korte of St. Cloud, Diane Schmiesing, David (Sonja) Goerdt, Lois (Mark) Meyer, Joyce (Joseph) Frericks and Janet (Thomas) Schulte, all of Sauk Centre; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edwina Dehler, Evelyn (Ferdinand) Stepan, Anita Esklund, Marilyn (Fritz) Uphus, Rose (Sylvester) Uphus, RuthAnn (James) Gieske and Louise Echola; brothers, Julian (Audrey) Goerdt and Joseph (Marion) Goerdt.
Tony was preceded in death by his son, Joseph, on July 17, 1958; grandsons, Curt and Carl Schulte; parents; sisters, Ione Kukla and Barbara "Barbie" Spellerberg; and brother, Roger Goerdt.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons, Dave Kampsen, John and Ted Goerdt, Ben Frericks, and Justin and Ryan Schulte. Cross bearer will be his granddaughter, Emily Frericks.
