Anna C. "Katie" Engel, age 90, of Sauk Centre died peacefully Thursday, April 21, 2005 at her home in Sauk Centre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2005 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.
Anna Catherine Engel was born on March 3, 1915 in Kandota Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Henry and Gertrude (Proell) Ahrens. She was employed at Armour & Company in South St. Paul for 26 years. She retired and moved to Sauk Centre in 1978. Anna enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and making many quilts. She also loved to have rummage sales. Anna was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sauk Centre.
Survivors include her children, Mary Ann McDonald (Dale) of Sauk Centre, Janet Guerra of Newport, Jerry Engel (Kathleen) of South St. Paul, Arlene Kirk (Charlie) of St. Paul, Tom Engel (Patty) of Inver Grove Heights, Wayne Engel of Moundsview, Ron Engel (Mary) of South St. Paul, Toni Martinson (Gary) of St. Paul; 33 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Agnes Sieben and Dena Van Heel of Sauk Centre and Paul Ahrens (Erma) of Osakis; sisters-in-law, Lily Ahrens of Long Prairie, Elsie Engel, Cleo, Genevieve and Fern Ahrens of Sauk Centre and brother-in-law, Carl Ecklund of Sauk Centre.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl Engel on Nov. 1969; children, Robert Ahrens, Evelyn Engel, Leona Engel, and Carol Grzeskowiak; grandson, Chris Grzeskowiak; great-grandson, Kevin McDonald; brothers and sisters, Mike, John, Herman, Tony and Lawrence Ahrens, Mary Ecklund and Elizabeth Pangburn.
Casket bearers will be Robert Guerra, Tim McDonald, Michael Engel, Stuart Mickelson, Mark Grzeskowiak, and Austin Engel. Cross bearer will be Tommy Engel and scripture bearer will be Jacob Engel. Honorary bearers will be the Senior Center Card Players.
Memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Hospice in Sauk Centre.
