Alvina B. Woeste, age 93, of Melrose, died peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Rev. Marvin Enneking and Rev. Ken Thielman will concelebrate and Deacon Ernie Kociemba will assist. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose following the Mass.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Alvina Bernadine Wessel was born December 5, 1924, in Melrose, Minnesota, to Bernard and Rose (Inderrieden) Wessel. On January 13, 1942, she married Sylvester G. Woeste at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple lived and farmed in Greenwald until moving to Melrose in 1978. She worked at the St. Mary's School with the lunch program and volunteered her time at St. Mary's and St. Andrew's Schools. She also assisted with wedding banquets for 20 years at the Melrose VFW. Alvina resided in her home until she moved to Park View in 2002. She then moved to Pine Villa in 2017. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, sewing, gardening, putting puzzles together, playing cards, collecting bells, singing, and dancing. She was famous for her homemade bread and canned sour kraut.

Alvina was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 101, and the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her children, Jim (Kathy) Woeste of Sauk Centre, Jane (Dale) Rademacher of Sauk Centre, Dan (Rita) Woeste of Greenwald, Rick (Jan) Woeste of St. Stephen, Mary Kay (Bruce) Pederson of Osakis, Shar (Dan) Goihl of Little Birch Lake, Ann (Dave) Terwey of St. Joseph, Kathy Kettler of Melrose, Duane Woeste of Roseville, Peg (Tom Brannan) Zimmer of St. Joseph, and Mark (Patti Holland) Woeste of Grey Eagle; 29 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvester; son, Donald Woeste in 1942; grandsons, Tom Roach, William Majerus, and Steven Majerus; sons-in-law, Mark Zimmer and Ron Kettler; brothers, Joe, John, and Alois Wessel; sisters, Fran Wessel, Rose Wulfekuhle, Josephine Mayers, Mary Bucholz, Fran Cooper, Ann Waldorf, Katherine Clarey, Clara Conrad, Eileen Dold, Ione Walz, and Irene Fuchs.

Serving as casket bearers will be Sarah Lenzen, Matt Goihl, Tricia Tambornino, Luke Woeste, Krista Ziemer, Lori Good, Russ Terwey, and Ben Kettler. Cross bearer will be Lola Quale, scripture bearer will be Beth Alipranti, and flower bearers will be Robyn Spotts and Liberty Kircher. Readers will be Stacie Smith and Travis Majerus. Gift bearers will be Jude Rooney and Bernice Zink. Mass Servers will be Kyla and Tyus Smith. Eucharistic Ministers will be Dan Woeste, Rita Woeste, and Stacie Smith. Eulogy will be read by Mary Kay Pederson.
