Alvin Welle

Alvin H. "Al" Welle, age 81 of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating and Rev. Todd Schneider concelebrating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Monday evning at the funeral home.

Alvin Hubert Welle was born August 26, 1930 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Erma (Meyer) Welle. He graduated from Melrose High School and the University of St. Thomas. Alvin was a member of the ROTC and enlisted in the United States Air Force. On February 6, 1954 he married Lillian Righi at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Leechburg, Pennsylvania. After Alvin's honorable discharge in July of 1954, the couple moved to Sauk Centre. Alvin worked with his uncle at the RJ Malloy Company, which he later took over in the early 60's. Alvin also farmed and owned the Montgomery Wards Agency in Sauk Centre. Alvin finally retired at the age of 75.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, bowling, gardening, watching the Minnesota Twins, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Alvin was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 67, Sauk Centre City Council, and the St. Michael's Hospital Board.

Alvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Welle of Sauk Centre; children, Mary (Rick) Schley of Glenwood, David (Rosemary) Welle of Sarasota, Florida, John (JoLynn) Welle of Sauk Centre, Paul (Anne) Welle of Mendota Heights, Mark (Debra) Welle of Lindstrom; twelve grandchildren, Jon, Jenna, and Jamie Schley, Ashley and Gregory Welle, Joseph, Thomas, Daniel, and Rachel Welle, and Michael, Timothy, and Sarah Welle; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Schley; brothers and sisters, Vernon (Genny) Welle of Spring Hill, Marlene (Gerald) Lieser of Spring Hill, Alice (Herb) Peters of Sauk Centre, JoAnn (Art) Middendorf of Sauk Centre, David (Marilyn) Welle of Greenwald, and Hank (Ann) Welle of Winona; sister-in-law, Bernice Welle of Spring Hill; and brother-in-law, Jerome Pelkey of Sauk Centre.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Erma Welle; brothers, James and Charles Welle; and sister, Carol Pelkey.

Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons, Jon Schley, Joseph Welle, Thomas Welle, Daniel Welle, Timothy Welle, and Michael Welle. Cross bearer will be his granddaughter, Jenna Schley and scripture bearer will be his granddaughter, Sarah Welle.
