Alvin H. Hinnenkamp, age 86 died Sunday, July 24, 2011 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Alvin Herman Hinnenkamp was born July 18, 1925 in Melrose, Minnesota to Ben and Elizabeth (Von Wahlde) Hinnenkamp. Alvin served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. After his time in the service, he was employed by Munson Feed. On June 7, 1950 he married Esther Frericks at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Minnesota. The couple moved north of Sauk Centre, where Alvin farmed until his retirement in 1985. Alvin had a sweet tooth and loved cookies, pies and ice cream but he also enjoyed a good fish fry. He enjoyed playing the concertina, "Old Time" music, riding around on his golf cart, and having his family over to visit.
Alvin was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Esther Hinnenkamp of Sauk Centre; children, Ruth (Dan) Pohlmann of Sauk Centre, Rose (Rick) Tschida of Belgrade, Jean Guettler of St. Cloud, David Hinnenkamp of Sauk Centre, Vernon (Renee) Hinnenkamp of Andover, Loren (Linda) Hinnenkamp of St. Joseph, and Linda (Mike) Rolek of Otsego; sons-in-law, Dan (Ann) Malone of Madison, Wisconsin and Fred Pohlmann of Willmar; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by his daughters, Marilyn Malone and Karen Pohlmann; parents, Ben and Elizabeth (Von Wahlde) Hinnenkamp; sisters, Alma Hellermann and Cornelia Wielenberg; and brothers, Edward and Andrew Hinnenkamp.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons, Chris Tschida, Eric Pohlmann, Joe Malone, Adam Hinnenkamp, David Hinnenkamp, Jr., Nick Hinnenkamp, and Shane Hinnenkamp. Cross bearer will be his grandson, Andrew Guettler and scripture bearer will be his granddaughter, Angie Tschida.
