Aloys H. “Red” Meyer, age 92 of Meire Grove, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 10, 2021 in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 16 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. John's Society of Meire Grove will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Aloys Herman Meyer was born June 26, 1929 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Aloys C. and Elizabeth (Nietfeld) Meyer. He completed his education at St. Paul's School of Agriculture. Red served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Arlene Rausch on August 9, 1958 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. The couple farmed near Meire Grove until their retirement. Red was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove, St. Joseph’s Men’s Society, Knights of Columbus, and the Melrose American Legion Post 101.

Faith, family, and farming were the most important things in Red’s life. He enjoyed socializing, playing cards, spending time outdoors, and especially spending time with his loving wife and family. Red had a wonderful sense of humor and  his laughter was contagious. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Judy (Steve) Croegaert of Willmar, Sharon (Don) Kluempke of Melrose, Shirley (Randy) Willoughby of Holdingford, Karl (Geri) Meyer of Meire Grove, Marvin (Rita) Meyer of Meire Grove, Glen (Julie) Meyer of Freeport, Carrie (Tim) Kerfeld of St. Rosa, and Kay Kahler of Little Falls; 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers, Arnold (Mary Ann) Meyer of Sauk Centre, David (Jane) Meyer of Sauk Centre, and Bernard Meyer of Alexandria; and sister-in-law, Jan Meyer of Melrose.

Red was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Meyer on June 12, 2017; parents; sisters, Anna Meyer and Marcella Lawler; brothers, James, Polycarp, Alban, and Leo Meyer; son-in-law, Gary Kahler; and other in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
