Aloys J. Duevel, age 87 of Upsala died Saturday, October 16, 2004 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Dale Ettel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Aloys Joseph Duevel was born June 17, 1917 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Agnes (Osterhues) Duevel. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kruse on October 1, 1941 in Melrose. After their marriage, the couple farmed for a short time and then moved to Duluth where Aloys worked at the US Steel Plant. He retired and moved to Upsala in 1989. The last three years he resided at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, picking flowers and playing his accordion. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, Upsala Knights of Columbus and Upsala Catholic Aid.

Survivors include his children, Aloys Duevel, Jr. of Duluth, David Duevel of Sauk Centre, Donald Duevel of Grey Eagle, Larry Duevel of Upsala, Ralph Duevel of Albany, Herman Duevel of Carlton and Rita Duevel of Melrose; brothers and sisters, Norbert Duevel of Minneapolis, Henry Duevel (Del) of North Branch, Marie Schneider (Herb) of Blaine, Arnold Duevel (Margaret) of Royalton and Bernadine Glowacki of Duluth; sister-in-law, Donna Duevel of Minneapolis.

Aloyswas preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Agnes Duevel; wife, Elizabeth Duevel on October 28, 1987; daughter, Betty Lou; brother, Joseph Duevel; and sister, Dorothy Kotter.

Serving as casket bearers will be Robert Dullinger, Mike Duevel, Vincent Toenyon, Mike Gerads, Bob Koetter, Jim Renneker, and LeRoy Uhlenkamp. Serving as cross bearer will be Joan Gerads and scripture bearer will be Alcuin Renneker. Gift bearers will be Marie Schneider and Bernadine Glowacki. Mass servers will be Mike Gerads and Frankie Gerads. Jerry Thoma, Janel Thoma and Deanna Gerads will do the readings.
