Alice E. (Kinsala) Gilbertson Wald, age 86 of Sauk Centre, passed away suddenly after surgery Friday, December 7, 2007 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 12 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Private inurnment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, near Little Falls.

Friends may call at the church in Sauk Centre from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Alice Wald was born June 8, 1921 in Gilby, North Dakota to Fordyce and Lillian (Berg) Kinsala. She was raised in Gilby, where she was a member of the Gilby Presbyterian Church, and captained the girl's basketball team, which won the state championship. On September 1, 1939 she married James Gilbertson, who was a depot agent, in Crookston, Minnesota. They were married 29 years. They resided in Colgate, North Dakota where she was the depot agent for the Great Northern Railroad. They then resided for ten years in Warwick, North Dakota where they worked and lived in the depot. They moved to Doyan, North Dakota for a short time before moving to Sauk Centre in 1954.Alice worked at the Main Street Cafe, the Waldorf Cafe, Oman Supply, Home Gas, Fingerhut, and the Sauk Centre Public Library. She retired in 1993.She married Raymond "Cy" Wald on April 19, 1975 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, Iowa. After their retirement, Alice and Cy spent their summers as campground hosts for the Chippewa National Forest at Knutson Dam on Cass Lake and their winters in McAllen, Texas. Alice enjoyed reading, crocheting, and recently learned how to use the computer. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and a member of Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary of Sauk Centre, which she had served as treasurer for many years.

Survivors include daughters, Judith (Chuck) Finch and Jo (Patrick) Glinnon, all of Sauk Centre; sons, Larry (Isabel "Liz") Gilbertson of Elk River and Neal (Stephanie) Gilbertson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Peggy Gilbertson of Richfield; step-daughter, Paula (Donald) Bump of Brighton, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond "Cy" Wald on June 30, 2005; son, James K. Gilbertson; grandson, Michael Finch; brothers, Glen, John, and Gordon Kinsala; sister, Ruth Striemikes.

Serving as urn bearer will be Mason James Gilbertson. Honorary bearers will be Muriel Wessel, Millie Blank, Nancy Kazlauckas, Arvid Anderson, Karen Fisher, and Marion Schumacher.
