Alice H. Gritzmacher, age 90 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, at the CentraCare Health Systems - Sauk Centre Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 15 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice Hilda Betow was born February 24, 1922 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to William and Willamina (Bucholtz) Betow. After graduating from Sauk Centre High School, Alice was a dental hygienist for Dr. Johnson in Sauk Centre. On September 15, 1949 she married Lawrence Gritzmacher at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Unity, south of Sauk Centre. Alice was a bookkeeper for Sauk Centre Tire and she also worked at Super America and DHIA in Sauk Centre until her retirement.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a lifelong resident of Sauk Centre. Alice enjoyed playing cards, games, and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves fan. She had a green thumb and enjoyed the many plants in her home.
Survivors include her children, Hal (Sharon) Gritzmacher of Bemidji and Paula (Gary McVey) Gritzmacher of Minnetonka; two granddaughters, Leslie (Sam) Johnson of Woodbury and Amy Long of Minneapolis; two great grandsons, Ty and Cade Johnson; and sisters, Mabel Peterson of St. Paul and Luverne Berglund of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gritzmacher on October 25, 2007; parents, William and Willamina Betow; brothers, Robert Betow, Alvin Betow, Willard Betow, and Martin Betow; and sister, Ruth Nathe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church.
