Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2004 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill, for Alexia M. Spanier, age 84, who died on March 10, 2004 at Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Women, Catholic Aid, and St. Mary's Mission Group will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Alexia Spanier was born on September 28, 1919 to Joseph and Philomena (Duclos) Wachmann. She married Math H. Spanier on June 6, 1946 at New Munich. They farmed for many years in the Spring Hill area. They enjoyed dancing with the Koronis Nite Owls Square Dancers. She loved gardening, sewing, quilting, and exhibiting items at the fair. Alexia was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Spring Hill, Christian Women, Catholic Aid, and St. Mary's Mission Group.
Survivors include her children, Pat Keller (Ken) of Minneapolis, Jerry Spanier (Lou) of Spring Hill, Sandra Spanier of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Neil Spanier (Mary) of Belgrade; sister, Margaret Niehoff of Melrose; brother, Jerome Wachmann (Phyllis) of Holiday, Florida; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Math H. Spanier, on Nov. 10, 1997; sisters and brothers, Julia Weisen, Kathryn Ruegemer, Eleanor Ruegemer, Raymond, Henry, Gregor, and Alex Wachmann, and Agnes Olmscheid; and 1 grandson, Kyle Spanier.
Memorials are preferred in Alexia's name to: Assumption Home Memory Care Unit, 715 1st Street N. Cold Spring, MN 56320.
