Alexander N. "Alex" Vogel, age 16, of Sauk Centre, passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Alex was a member of St. Alexis Catholic Church in West Union.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.
Alexander Nathan Vogel was born September 19, 2001 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota to David Vogel and Barbara Cannon. He grew up in Sauk Centre and attended Sauk Centre High School. He finished his 10th grade year, always being a straight "A" student, a Presidential Award Winner for Academics, and participated in school band and choir. He performed in the Honor Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, MainStreet Singers, Minnesota All State Boys Choir, and the Minnesota Ambassadors of Music. He sang bass and played tuba. He was nominated and selected to sing and play tuba with the Minnesota Ambassadors of Music, who will be performing in seven different countries in Europe in July.
Alex was a member of the Sauk Centre Trap Shooting Team and other various national and state trap shooting organizations. He enjoyed shooting, music, cars, and playing car video games. He liked animals, especially his two dogs, Zeke and Althea. Alex enjoyed helping people and will be deeply missed. He had a big heart and was a great big brother.
Alex is survived by his parents, Barbara Cannon of Sauk Centre and Dave (Allison) Vogel of Long Prairie; sisters, Isabelle and Rachel Vogel at home in Long Prairie; grandparents, Loren Erpelding of Sequim, Washington, Tom (MaryAnn) Vogel of West St. Paul, and Dave (Bev) Holmes of Otsego; great-grandparents, Janet Holmes of Crystal and Lois Degendorfer of Coon Rapids; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Wayne Degendorfer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
