Albert Niehaus

Albert H. "Albie" Niehaus, age 84 of Melrose died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at his home in Melrose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Bernard's Society Catholic Aid will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.

Albert Niehaus was born on April 10, 1920 in Melrose, Minnesota to Joseph and Agnes (Wessel) Niehaus. He was united in marriage to Rita E. Kerfeld on June 15, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. He was a dairy farmer all his life and retired in 1984. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his Big Birch Lake cabin, old time music and the outdoors. He was a great handyman and an avid reader. Albie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the St. Bernard's Society Catholic Aid.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Niehaus of Melrose; children, Judine Beuning and her husband, James of Albany, Terry Kaschmitter and her husband, Jack of Paynesville and Margo Niehaus of Alexandria; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brothers and sisters, Hildie Joyer of Sacramento, CA, Alquin Niehaus of San Francisco, CA, Eddie Niehaus of Melrose, Mae Wiechmann and her husband, Lawrence of Melrose and Anthony Niehaus and his wife, Carol of Melrose.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Agnes Niehaus; brothers and sisters, Joseph T. Niehaus, Ted Niehaus, Julitta Niehaus, Sr. Inez Niehaus OSF, Sr. Venard Niehaus OSF, and Sr. Helen Niehaus OSF.

Serving as casket bearers will be Butch Niehaus, Tom Wiechmann, Virgil Niehaus, Kyle Beuning, Kurt Beuning and Jamie Wilson. Serving as cross bearer will be Kay Wilson. Honorary bearers will be Lawrence Mueller, Bernard Bussmann, Edward Bussmann, Walter Broermann, Bob Mueller, Mick Ebnet, Val Gieske, Marvin Notch, Bob Welters and Ron Thieschafer. Gift bearers will be Mae Wiechmann, Eddie Niehaus and Tony Niehaus. Mass servers will be Grant and Kayla Niehaus. Eucharistic Ministers will be Carol Niehaus, Eileen Maus and Jan Notch. Eileen Niehaus will be the reader and Judine Beuning will give the eulogy.
