Albert J. "Bert" Meyer, age 75 of Meire Grove, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from injuries sustained in an accident on his farm in Melrose Township, Stearns County, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Omar Guanchez officiating and Deacon Stephen Arnold concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Albert Joseph Meyer was born March 2, 1937 on the family farm three miles north of Meire Grove in Melrose Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Meinulf and Mary (Haskamp) Meyer. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Meire Grove and graduated from Melrose High School. He was a member of the National Guard, and spent the rest of his life farming, which he truly loved. He was a kind, considerate brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend, who would help anyone.
Bert was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove, St. Joseph's Men's Society, and Catholic United Financial - formerly the Catholic Aid Society. He was an officer of the Meire Grove Athletic Club for 37 years. He loved everything Meire Grove, especially the Grovers and the Meire Grove Band.
Survivors include his sisters, Dolores Dols of St. Cloud, Mildred Bromenshenkel of Sauk Centre, and Florence Meyer of Meire Grove; brothers, Cyril (Jane) Meyer of Sauk Centre, Larry (Shari) Meyer of Willmar, and Richard (Bonnie) Meyer of Milaca; and 27 nieces and nephews.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Meyer; sister, Loretta Miller; sister-in-law, Evelyn Messer; brothers-in-law, Art Miller, Ewald Dols, and Allan Bromenshenkel; and nephews, Gerald Meyer and Daniel Bromenshenkel.
Serving as casket bearers will be Walter Miller, Kevin Dols, Ronald Bromenshenkel, David Meyer, Jeff Meyer, Janice Rivard, and Lynn Toonstra. Serving as cross bearer will be Thomas Meyer. Scripture bearer and lector will be Kenneth Meyer. Honorary bearers will be the St. Joseph's Men's Society and the Meire Grove Baseball Team. Gift bearers will be Ann Berling, Dorothy Middendorf, and Carol Sell and Eucharistic Minister will be Bonnie Meyer.
