Adella M. Ehlert, age 90, of Melrose, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, Senior Citizens, and Legion of Mary will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m.
Adella Ehlert was born March 1, 1916 in Albany Township, Stearns County to Bernard and Julianna (Hoeschen) Wenker. She married Walter Ehlert on June 20, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. The couple farmed in New Munich, St. Wendel, and St. Anthony until 1944 when they moved to Melrose. Adella enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, family, and her many friends.She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, Catholic Aid Association, Melrose Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers, Legion of Mary, and a former member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Marvin Ehlert and his wife, Sheila of Buffalo, Joanne Davis and her husband, Lee of Shakopee, Corinne Slowey of Blaine, Judy Brick and her husband, Mike of Grey Eagle, and Jane Torrez of Shakopee; daughter-in-law, Nancy Ehlert of Brooklyn Center; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Clara Meyer of Avon, Bill Wenker of Freeport, Al Wenker and his wife, Marge of Albany, and Max Wenker and his wife, June of Melrose.
Adella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Ehlert on August 23, 1991; infant son in 1953; daughter, Elaine Kutter on August 4, 1996; son, Herbert Ehlert on October 10, 1998; infant brother, Joseph Wenker; sister, Marie Dirkes; and brother, Joe Wenker.
Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Shawn Davis, Scott Davis, Mike Ehlert, Mark Ehlert, Kevin Kutter, Nikki Ehlert, and Brian Ehlert. Cross bearer will be her granddaughter, Sara Kutter and scripture bearer will be her granddaughter, Stacey Ehlert. Honorary bearers will be Loretta Rieland, Agnes Maus, Cathy Koopmeiners, Irene Becker, Fran Schreifels, Frances Graves, Anna Hellermann, Rita Frieler, Kitty Mueller, Bernice Doege, Alice Klaphake, Jean Hellermann, and Ann Beard.
