Adella A. "Della" Blommel, age 94 of Melrose and formerly of Freeport, died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB and Rev. Julius Beckermann, OSB concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Golden Years Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the church.
Adella Blommel was born on November 21, 1909 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Henry and Anna (Koetter) Kerfeld. She was united in marriage to Henry J. Blommel in May of 1930 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The couple farmed in Millwood Township and later Adella worked as a nurse's aide at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, flowers, and making rosaries. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Golden Years Senior Citizens and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Marcella "Sally" Bergmann and her husband, Loren of Albany, Helen Hinnenkamp and her husband, Ebe of Melrose, Marlene Hinnenkamp and her husband, Bill of Melrose, Anne Stommes and her husband, David of Nine Miles Falls, WA, and Alice Hoeschen and her husband, Wally of Freeport; daughter-in-law, Elaine Blommel of Freeport; 34 grandchildren and 75 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Olivia Kimlinger of Waite Park, Marie Eyinck of Albany, Ray Kerfeld of Freeport, and Rita Niehaus of Melrose.
Adella was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Kerfeld; husband, Henry Blommel on May 29, 1950; sons, Roman Blommel in November of 1999 and Norbert Blommel in May of 1999; brothers and sister, Lawrence Kerfeld, Hubert Kerfeld and Elenore Herzog.
Serving as casket bearers will be Kevin Blommel, Patrick Hinnenkamp, Gregg Bergmann, Ken Hinnenkamp, Shelley Williams and Brian Hoeschen. Serving as cross bearer will be Brenda Von Wahlde and scripture bearer will be Gwenn Peterson. Honorary bearers will be Golden Years Senior Citizens and the Christian Mothers.
